Take a look at this eBay auction for what is a pretty rare Joey Votto game-used jersey. Apparently worn during the 2007 Futures Game played during the All-Star break in San Francisco, this jersey was somehow spared from Topps chopping machine. Other jerseys worn by Joey that day did get shredded and placed on 2007 Bowman baseball cards – see the card to the right. The Bowman 2007 release date was December 12, 2007.
If we had the means, we would throw down on this little piece of history. Joey hit a home run off of Clay Buchholz that game, helping the World team clobber the US club 7-2. Later in 2007, Joey was called up to the Reds and the rest is history. But, before you pull the trigger, make sure to ask for more photos of the jock and laundry tags to make sure it’s legit. Here’s the description in the auction:
Joey Votto team-issued Futures Game jersey
Team: World/Cincinnati Reds
World crest, name, and number sewn on in twill. MLB logo sewn on the back neck.
Cincinnati Reds patch sewn on right sleeve. XM Satellite Radio 2007 All-Star Futures Game patch sewn on left sleeve.
2007 All-Star Game jock tag printed at the bottom/front of the jersey. Cool Base and size tags sewn in the side hem beside it. Care tag sewn inside carries the code of a game-issued jersey: 0068. Made in the USA.
Jersey is in mint condition.
The jerseys actually worn in the game were destroyed… cut up and glued to Bowman baseball cards. The only other game-issued Futures jersey I’ve seen was a David Wright jersey that sold on Ebay several years ago for over $550.
There’s really no way of telling how many of these may be floating around.
With all the hype surrounding Joey Votto and his All-Star bid, items like this are bound to surface as folks cash in on their investments. Even with the hefty $550 price tag, it’s likely still a decent investment.
