Reds Hall of Fame

Fans meetin' and greetin' Reds Hall of Famers on Friday night

We hit the Reds Hall of Fame “Famefest” both Friday night before the game a during the day on Saturday and had a great time. This weekend is awfully special for Reds fans with all the Reds greats from the past coming back to Cincinnati for a visit. We posted a few photos from Friday and Saturday on the photoblog, but not a comprehensive visual tally of all that was happening – espcially on Friday. Short of Redsfest, you’ll never see that many Reds great gathered all in one place and ready to chat it up or take a photo with you. A great experience talking with guys like Joe Morgan, Chris Sabo, Pedro Borbon, Glenn Braggs, Keith Brown and others.

Btw, Chris Sabo saw my #28 Scott Ruskin jersey and exclaimed “Kal Daniels!”. I told him “close” and turned around to reveal the “RUSKIN” on the back of my jersey. He got a pretty big kick out of it and mentioned that Scott was a good friend of his. He also asked me if I knew Scott. Alas, I do not.

We’ll be on-hand for the Reds Hall of Fame Gala tomorrow night. Follow us on Twitter for some of the action. We’ll follow up with some more coverage after the weekend.

Nice! I guess it hadn’t occurred to me that Sabo and Kal were actually teammates for like a season and a half before Daniels got dealt with Lenny Harris to the Dodgers for Duncan and Leary. I wish Kal would’ve been a Red a little bit longer (and would’ve played longer, period, of course … the guy just couldn’t stay healthy) for Reds HOF consideration. I’ll bet most fans would be surprised to learn that in ’88 – the year Sabo was NL Rookie of the Year – Daniels (who obviously wasn’t a rookie, but) put up bigger numbers than Sabo across the board, with stolen bases being the exception. And that wasn’t even Kal’s best year as a Red … his ’87 numbers were ridiculous in only 368 at-bats.
