New grub at GABP

“Hey OMG, why don’t you come down to the ballpark on Monday and try out some of the new GABP food items for 2013?”

“Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… You had me at ‘Hey.'”

This really isn’t going to be much of a food review. I’m not going to be going all Polly Campbell on this. It’s hard to be critical when you start off a food tasting with a Redlegs Rum Runner mixed in a blender mounted to a Fender Blender emblazoned with Redlegness.

Yes, the stationary bike is a thing and you can blend your own while burning a calorie or two at GABP this season. “Rock the Bike” will be in section 101 (centerfield by the Reds bullpen), where you can whip up your own Redlegs Rum Runner or Mojito. Make sure to grab your helmet when heading back for another round.

So yeah, the food. It was all good. I didn’t get to try everything but here are some one word responses to the fare I sampled:

Smoked Prime Rib Sandwich – Damn!

Fiesta Burger – Rad.

Italian Burger – Ohhhhhhh…

Lo Mien w/ Chicken on Stick – Nice! (Needs to be served in a helmet)

Taco Brat – Ballpark-Mex-y (In a good way)

Frisch’s Big Boy – Classic!

Bog O’ Desserts featuring Churros – OHMYGOSH

Let’s talk about Churros, baby

GABP Churros

GABP Churros

If 2010 was the year of the Funnel Fry, 2013 is mounting a strong Churro campaign. By time I made my way to the Churro station I was STUFFED with a capital FF. But, I wanted to give them a shot and finish off the day with a sweet pallet refresher. One bite, maybe two… Maybe. Well, I was handed three Churros in a fancy metal basket and after one bite, I couldn’t hold back. The Churros didn’t have a chance.

It’s really not about the food. The food is tasty, creative and on-trend. The Reds and Sportservice are killin’ it. It’s about the continual improvement of all facets of the fan experience at the ballpark. Yeah, it was somewhat comforting to go to Riverfront every year and get the same hot dog and Coke. When GABP opened, new things were added and updated, but things were generally stagnent after a quick start. The current Reds ownership sets new standards every year and exceeds them the next. While I was at GABP Monday for a food tasting, I could looked out the windows of the Riverfront Club and noticed several locations in the ballpark where new features or improvements where being made at that very moment. Boom.

And the Churros. My, oh my, the Churros.
