$1500 in Pennies

Ken Griffey Jr., and a locker full of pennies

Just came across this gem of a story. Apparently Ken Griffey Jr owed Josh Fogg $1500 and paid him completely in pennies. Outstanding! Just another reason why Griffey is my favorite player. Hey Griff, if you have another 150,000 pennies lying around you’re more than welcome to send them my way.

Jocketty Replaces Krivsky as GM

Reds named Walt Jocketty as their new GM replacing Wayne Krivsky. I guess the slow start and eating the salaries of Stanton and Castro among other things was too much for Mr. Castellini. Seriously though, who didn’t see this coming once we hired Jocketty as “Special Advisor”.

Marty 1 – Cubs Fans 0

As I was driving home Wednesday night, I tuned into what was an absolute beating of a Reds game, and was I ever so glad I did! After Adam Dunn delivers a homerun ball into the streets of Chicago, Cubs fans threw 15 or so baseballs back onto the field. This would lead to probably the best 2 minutes of radio I have heard in a long time. Thank you Marty!

Lohse

What about Kyle Lohse pitching 12 scoreless innings in two starts for St. Louis. Seriously don’t you just love YouTube? I don’t know which is more surprising, finding a video collage of Kyle Lohse, or someone spending the time to create such a video of Kyle Lohse. Outstanding.

Reds Power Pack

Your last chance to get opening day tickets go on sale this Saturday, February 23 in the form of the Reds Power Pack. Along with opening day, this pack includes the entire Cubs, Red Sox, and Indians series. Also note the Saturday Indians game is Brandon Phillips duel bobblehead night which is sure to be outstanding.

While I’d love to get my hands on opening day tickets and go to one of the Boston games, to commit an entire weekend for 3 separate series is a bit much. Maybe this is a pack to go in with a friend or two and split the tickets, although you always run into who gets to attend which game. I must say this pack is very tempting.

On an unrelated note, don’t miss the total lunar eclipse tonight. We won’t have another one again for two years.

Belisle Gets $1.25 Million Contract

Matt Belisle and the Reds agreed to a $1.25 million deal today avoiding arbitration. Brandon Phillips remains the last Reds player left in arbitration. It will be interesting to see what he’ll make after last years 30-30 performance.

Walt Jocketty as Reds Special Advisor

Pretty exiting news from the Reds. Apparently Walt Jocketty “will advise and assist Castellini in every facet of baseball operations, including matters related to the front office, Major League field and support personnel, scouting and Minor League and international operations along with training and medical services.”
