Happy Thanksgiving

Joey Votto - Turkey Red baseball card
A big Happy Thanksgiving from the homies here at OMGreds! We hope that you're spending time with your loved ones and not reading this blog. We have a lot to be thankful this year - mostly our fans. All nine of you. It's been a great year and we will do our best to continue bringing our "AA" game throughout the off-season, spring training and most of the regular season.

We're going to be heading to the Moeller High School Sports Card and Memorabilia Show this weekend. We need to say hi to our good buddy Eddie Milner, as he's making an appearance at the show. Make sure you get the OMGscoop from us on the Twitters. Should be rad.

Finally! Stirrups!

Joey Votto stirrups
Joey Votto and his stirrupsYes! Someone on the Reds finally donned THE STIRRUP. An honest-to-god stirrup. None other than Mr. Joey Votto is wearing stirrups tonight against the Giants, not a the full-length red sock. We're stoked. Maybe he took our suggestion (or C Trent's?) and ordered a pair? It's a great look and seems to be having a bit of a resurgence around the league. Maybe a couple of other Reds will follow suit? The question is... who will be next? Any guesses out there? I'll put my money on Adam Rosales.

Alright, folks

Damn Cubs fans and their damn Snuggies - FAIL!
Okay Reds fans, you're being testing right now. Our team just dunn got swept by the Brew, our savior Joey Votto is on the DL for some mysterious reason and we're heading into St. Louis to face serial Reds Killer A. Pujols and he band of merry chubs.

This is where a hell of a lot of Reds fans will be jumping off ye ol' bandwagon.

We can't let it happen though. The Reds will be back in town this weekend with the Cubs and their damn fans and their damn Snuggies coming with them. We should never have to say this, but we have to rally. Get your butt down to the ballpark this weekend, get your Reds gear on and root your ass off. You and the greater 'Nati area will be better for it. Shut the Cubs fans out of our park. We don't want to see any blue there this weekend.

Plus, there's some nice swag being handed out this weekend. You know us, we're suckers for free crap. Saturday is baseball card night. Sweet! Sunday the Reds are giving fans a matted photo of Joey Votto... with 500 of them actually signed by the man, himself. Can you believe that? MATTED! Those things are expensive at Michael's (make sure you bring a coupon, that always helps). Too bad JV won't be in the house for all that jazz. And, if that wasn't enough, mister 50-homers-in-a-season George Foster will be signing autos and kissing babies in the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum before the game on Saturday. Make sure to wish him luck on Dancing with the Stars.

And who doesn't want to see the Reds beat the hell out of Dempster? Friday night - It's on!

UPDATE: Cowboy's man-crush on Votto

Brantley REALLY seems to have a thing for man's man Joey Votto. His obsession reached new levels of hilariousness/creepiness on Thursday night during the Fox Sports broadcast. Cowboy and Thom were in the booth and each had a Joey Votto bobblehead in hand, previewing the giveaway for Saturday's game. Brantley began asking the Votto-head questions about how he was feeling (he was out of the lineup with a case of the flu). Brantley would then answer his own questions in a deep, sexy, Votto-voice.

It was epic television. I'll post video if I can find any.

Brantley: Votto, a Piece of Man Candy

Jeff Brantley's thoughts on Joey Votto
Holy moly, there are no words for ANY of this from the Ol' Cowboy

Let me tell you ‘nary have I ever seen a better looking first basemen. It was the Bottom of the 4th two outs and a high soft, low liner was hit sharpley to Joey Votto. And I am telling you, that kid grabbed that out of the air like a bull tosses his rider before he can even get 8 out of the gate. That’s what we call Pickin’ and Grinnin’

Remember Red’s fans Joey Votto is a man’s man. Distinct features, Italian stock, wide broad shoulders, firm buttocks.

Oh. My. Gawd.

Finally! More WBC photos

Poor Joey Votto
We've posted some select photos of our trip to Toronto and the World Baseball Classic over in the OMGreds photoblog. Nothing too exciting - just some flavor from up north. A little Dunn, a little Votto... It's all good in the hood.

Seriously, more photos this weekend. We'll be at the Reds game on Saturday down in sunny Sarasota. Check the photoblog for the all the helmet sundae action.

Three homers for Votto!

Joey Votto
The Reds had hit 7 home runs in their past 10 games. They hit 7 in the first 6 innings today.

Funny thing is the Reds hold the National League record for most home runs in a game (they hit 9 against the Phillies Sept. 4, 1999).

Joey Votto hit three in five plate appearances (he walked in the third and grounded out in the eighth). Off three different pitchers.

Votto is the first to hit three in a game this season. It's the 481st time a player has hit 3 in one game, and he's the 337th different guy to do it. The most recent was Frank Thomas for the Blue Jays Sept. 17, 2007.

Only 15 players in big league history have hit 4 in one game. No Red has ever done it. Carlos Delgado did it most recently (Sept. 25, 2003) with the Blue Jays. Hard hittin' Mark Whiten did it at Riverfront Sept. 7, 1993.
