The Offseason?

This is a stove. It may be hot. Or not. Think whatever you want
Is the ON SEASON here at OMGreds.com. Well, that's probably a stretch. But, we're all excited about this Reds offseason for many reasons. The Reds will be looking better next year. What moves will Jocketty have in store for the team? There are many great off-season events we are stoked about: Big Red Machine Reunion, Moeller Sports Card Show, Redsfest. Plus, spring training is right around the corner! Hellz yeah.

We are still sorting out our plans, but we will likely be at all the events and doing a little photoblogging, if not more here at OMGreds.com.

Big Red Machine Reunion
November 14-16
Duke Energy Center
more information

This is a pretty neat event and we'll try and stop by. I have never been before, so not sure what to expect. The autograph prices are pretty steep, so I probably won't be picking anything up at the show.

Moeller Thanksgiving Spectacular
November 28-30
Moeller High School
More information

I haven't been to this show since I was a kid! They have a fantastic line-up this year featuring players from the the '90s as well as current guys. Here's a list of who's signing at the show. It's pretty impressive, really. The prices are not too bad, either.

Dave Parker (The Cobra!!!)
Joey Votto (VOTTOtron is happy)
Chris Dickerson (Exciting!)
Kal Daniels (Awesome, except I remember him more as a Dodger)
Ron Robinson (Big Red Ron)
Tom Browning (Mr. Frickin' Hilarious)
Jon Warden (Actually, we are pretty stoked about Mr. Warden being there)

There are also a slew of minor leaguers with local ties that will be signing as well - very reasonably priced at $3 a signature. Check out http://www.cincycardshows.com for information on times, prices, etc.

We'll be there for at least one day, if not more and putting up some photos from the show while we are there. Stay tuned!

Also, Cincy Card Shows need some help with their website. It makes my eyeballs bleed every time I go there for information. Make it stop!!

Redsfest XI
December 12-13
Duke Energy Center
More Information

OMGreds will be there with bells on. We might even blow out a special section here on the site for it. Planning is in the works now. Of course, most of our planning meeting consist of either going to Cyclones games for cheap PBR or Snappy Tomato Pizza buffet at lunch during the week - so you can imagine how much stuff we actually get done.

Anyways, we're doing our best to win the VIP Sweepstakes so we can bring you an exclusive inside look at the whole thing. But, that hinges on actually winning. We'll see how that goes. Wish us luck.

Of course, what is the best thing about Redsfest? The autographs! We're total nerds about that stuff and we're excited about the folks that are slated to attend Redsfest as of today:

Bronson Arroyo, Jeff Brantley, Marty Brennaman, Thom Brennaman, Jay Bruce, Jared Burton, Leo Cardenas, Clay Carroll, Zack Cozart, Chris Dickerson, Danny Dorn, George Foster, Todd Frazier, George Grande, Paul Janish, Jeff Keppinger, Devin Mesoraco, Brandon Phillips, Adam Rosales, Jordan Smith, Drew Stubbs, Chris Valaika, Joey Votto, Brandon Waring, and Chris Welsh.

UPDATE:

Second wave of confirmations: Daryl Thompson, Ryan Hanigan, Craig Tatum, Jack Billingham, Wayne Granger, Jerry Lynch, Chuck Harmon, Tommy Helms, and Jim Maloney.

Watch out, I need to get my '87 Topps Chris Welsh card signed, so just stay out of my way, okay? Cool. Thanks.

More on all this as each event approachs - Make sure to keep OMGreds.com at the top of your bookmarks and our RSS feed on lock.

Dude. Bra. WTF?

Helmet Sundae
As you probably already know, this blog and others have some serious love for the helmet sundae. If it's not a beer night (it's always a beer night) we are definitely rockin' the helmet sundae. Hell, we'll even rock both. I saw something at tonight's ball game (9-3 loss to the Dodgers - gah!) that pissed me off.

While sitting in the right field stands, a group of folks were sitting to the right me having a good time. When their friend walked up with his helmet sundae in hand, they started to barrage him with hell.

"Dude, are you a sissy?"

"WTF, dude?

"Dude, you got a helmet sundae? Dude."

Something like that at least.

My homie with the helmet sundae trekked all the way to the other side of the stadium to track down his tasty treat and he comes back to only get hell from his "bras".

WTF, dudes? You can't enjoy a delicious helmet sundae and still be a man's man? I don't buy it. It was jealously all the way. Homie had some dedication to track that thing down... and made sure to get a cherry on top. Which some dude called a strawberry. Lame.

Via la helmet sundae!

Reds... let's get our shit together!

The Reds start a three game battle with the Cubs tonight. It should be a blood bath for the next three days. The photo really has nothing to do with anything we are posting... we just posted it. Go Reds. May the power of Mr. Redlegs be with you.

Dynamic Duo

Josh Hamilton and Homer Bailey
I was at Target last night and decided to pick up a few packs of baseball cards. I'm not THAT into baseball cards any more, but it's fun to grab a few packs once in a blue moon and rip 'em open. One of the pack's I bought was a Topps 2007 Rookies - 1952 Edition. These cards designs are based on the old '52 Topps series. I'm a sucker for the old designs and almost anything from the '50s is totally money. The Josh Hamilton Homer Bailey duo card came in the one pack I bought. Awesome! Now, picking this card up last year would have been awesome, but I still love it. It was hard to see Hamilton traded and Bailey has been having his troubles in spring training this year. I wish Hamilton good luck with the Rangers. Our Savior, Homer, will be a great one soon... Reds fans just have to hold tight for a while.

I was reading the back of the packaging for that pack of cards and I thought it was funny that there was this disclaimer:

"Topps does not, in any manner, make any representations as to whether its cards will attain any future value"

How long have they been putting that on there?

Phil's Kendrick totally PWND

Kyle Kendrick - Punk'd
LOL! Check out this story about "second year rookie" pitcher Kyle Kendrick. His teammates totally hose him and have him thinking he's been traded to a team in Japan. Classic.

Hello, OMGreds.com

Go Reds! Beat the shit out of those damn A's!Welcome to omgReds.com. Please select from the following Cincinnati Reds fandom level menu:

1) "I freaking love the Reds. I have a framed picture of Paul Householder above my bed."

Wow. That's deep. We've got you covered though. Up-to-the-minute news and statistics that'll make your head spin. You'll be that obnoxious fan at your next Reds-themed potluck. They deserve it. They should've known Encarnacion's batting average last season against left-handers in the first place.

2) "I like the Reds, but only when they're winning."

Great. I suppose you weep uncontrollably when it rains too. Not really our thing, but we can help. The latest standings, who's hot and who's really not, from Opening Day through those six games you decide to check in on this year. Don't worry about it - you can thank us at the playoffs.

3) "Oh yeah, I've heard of the Cincinnati Reds. You'll have to get that checked out. Nasty shit."

OK, so you're clueless. That's cool. There's plenty of stuff here that is straight-up hilarious, Reds fan, casual Reds fan or not even close.

Reds Classic Rewind: '90 NLCS game 6

Danny Jackson vs. Barry Bonds

Very random thoughts:

- Was it a prerequisite to either have a mustache or huge mullet to play for the Pirates? They all seem to have one or the other.

- Bonds: He still wears his pants pretty high in the waist, but low on the stirrups.

- Danny Jackson: was a stud this game.

- TV graphics have come a long way.

- Make sure to check the comments of this post for more reflection from OMGreds.com contributor, Paul.

Upcoming Reds Classic Rewind games
01/28/08 - 10/20/1990 - World Series Game 4 vs. Oakland
02/04/08 - 06/16/1978 - Tom Seaver's no hitter vs. St. Louis
02/11/08 - 06/30/2006 - Reds comeback vs. Cleveland

Off-Topic: Jerseys at Ballgames

Something I have always wondered: when did it become cool to wear jerseys to ball games - baseball or otherwise? I remember buying jerseys (or, my mom buying them) in the early '90s when I was in junior high. Seeing the crowd in this game and the game last week from '86 - you never see anyone in a Reds jersey. If you tune in today, you see them everywhere. I have a few myself. When did teams start really selling them? Also, I wonder who the first fan to wear a teams jersey to a game. When did that happen? in the 1960's? '70s? 1941? Did everyone at the game think this person was a total dork or was he pretty damn cool? Not that anyone would know, but it something I'd love to find out.
