Cardinals fans …

… get caught licking nacho cheese off their fingers.

They also tuck it in.

Check the standings, fellas:

And yes, the one dude is chanting “Bran-don,” and the other is chanting “Phil-lips.” I always find it particularly insulting when opposing fans chant my name. Way to really get into his head. Good job, guys.

Unconfirmed reports that this dude is a Cardinals fan too:

BP tries, but can’t quite take care of Leake

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Losing to the Pirates sure does stink, but whatcha gonna do? This is a team that swept the Reds in Pittsburgh back in April; hopefully fortunately the Reds can TCOB on Wednesday and take took 2 of 3.

Yeah, they came up short, but how about Brandon Phillips’ two-out, two-run double in the 8th to bring the Reds within a run. Can we talk about how money BP has been lately? He has 13 hits in his past 31 at-bats (.419). He has four multi-hit games in his past seven. The league leader in runs has scored at least one run in six of seven games. (He’s got nine runs in those seven games.) And once again he comes alive in the 8th inning, an inning in which he’s hitting .375 (18-for-48) this season. How great would it be for the Reds if August turns out like June (.373 BA) did for BP?

Can we also talk about how money Rolen has been lately? This guy is 12-for-24 over his past six games.

Who’s not hot? Bruce has 11 strikeouts and 5 hits in the past 7 games. (He has 103 strikeouts this season, with 99 hits.) He has struck out 30 times in his past 96 at-bats. .255 is the lowest his average has been since May 10. Hate to sound like a broken record but how about some time off?

BP quote

Friday, June 18th, 2010

After Thursday’s 7-1 win against the Dodgers, Brandon Phillips was asked about coming away with just four wins during a 10-game homestand. He offered the following response:

I feel like the teams that we played we should have took advantage of it, but, you know, I mean, that’s the way baseball goes. We just learn from our mistakes and hopefully we can do better on the road. That’s all it really is. We know the kind of team we are and we know the teams we played. We should have won those games.

A quick check of the standings reveals that the Giants are 37-28 (1/2 game out of first in the NL West) and the Dodgers are 38-28 (tied for first in the division). Both of those records are better than that of the Reds. You could make the argument that the Giants were only 30-25 when they came to town, but they split with us. So it wasn’t beating the Reds that helped them inch closer to first – it was winning five of six after they left.

So we’re left to assume that by “teams that we played” who the Reds should have beaten up on (in more ways than one), BP is talking about the Royals. In which case, we agree, it was definitely not good losing two out of three to Kansas City at home. Good. Glad we’re all in agreement then.

Awkward, at best

Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto 2010 Upper Deck Series 1

Did you shave? No. Did you Shave? No.

If anyone should be suing Upper Deck, it should be BP and J-Vott. Check out the Reds team checklist card from 2010 Series 1 Upper Deck – NOT COOL. Things on this card are just a little too close for comfort.

In somewhat related nerdiness, our main man Youk is getting a SECOND McFarlane this year. McFarlane MLB Series 26 is scheduled to be released May, 2010.

Brandon Phillips signing autographs

Brandon Phillips signs autographs at the Reds Caravan stop in Columbus

The OMGreds posse kicked around the idea of a quick Reds Caravan road trip to maybe Athens or Louisville or some other stop for a night, but schedules were tight and nothing came of it. So, it was out of the blue when Twitter told me that the Reds Caravan was at the same spot in Columbus I was heading to Sunday morning.

Really, I was really planning to go there. The Reds were not involved with my plans at all. I SWEAR. It was just a nice coincidence. SWEAR.

As the Caravan stop at Polaris Fashion Place (MALL) was just kicking off, I hit the road from Cincinnati to Columbus.

In spite of the I-71 being patrolled by EVERY SINGLE State Trooper in the state of Ohio, I made good time and actually caught the last 30 minutes of the autograph session, getting in line right outside of JC Penny. Oh, I how I love Pennys. Anyways, though Reds officials let us back-of-the-liners know that we probably won’t make it through the line in time, but we stuck it out anyways. We were soon rewarded by a very kind Brandon Phillips, who hopped up from his seat on the stage and came out to make sure that every person in line that wanted an autograph and/or photo with him was taken care of. Total class act. This was the last stop of the weekend tour for these guys and I’m sure they wanted to head home, but they took care of everyone. I also managed to snag an auto from Zach Cozart and Glenn Braggs right before they bugged out. All those guys couldn’t have been any nicer.

Glad I made the stop in C-Bus to hook-up with the Reds Caravan.

While I didn’t get much in the way of photos (sorry!) make sure you check out Jamie Ramsey’s blog, Better Off Red. There is a plethora of photos and stories from all the 2010 Reds Caravan stops. Great stuff. While Redsfest is awesome for us fans here in Cincy, the Reds really do their best to take care of the rest of Reds Country.

UPDATE: Make sure you check out The Writer’s Journey for photos and autographs from Saturday’s Caravan stop at National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton on Saturday.

For even more, Red Hot Mamma has posted some photos from the Muncie, IN stop on Saturday.

ALSO…
Looks like the Reds inked Orlando Cabrera. Nice upgrade at short. We are really rooting for Janish, but this is great. Hopefully The OC can produce this year.

Our boy Slyde over at Red Reporter is at Reds Fantasy Camp. We couldn’t possibly be more jealous. Have a great week, dude!

Brandon Phillips waves to the crowd at Ed Smith Stadium
OMGer Dave was down in Florida this past weekend for some Grapefruit League action. He was able to watch the Redlegs and Bucs play last week at Ed Smith in Sarasota as well as a Rays/Red Sox game in Port Charlotte.

Dave posted a slew of photos from his trip, including some bonus pics of former Red Marcus McBeth, now with the Red Sox.

More photos are coming very soon – more from this past weekend’s WBC games in Toronto, as well as some more spring training action this weekend. We’ll be at the Reds/Rays game on Saturday. Keep checking the photo blog for more updates.

BP out with broken finger

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

For the rest of the season! Damn! This will probably kill his chances at a Gold Glove this season – that sucks!

UPDATE: Yeah, he’s definetly out. Here’s an update from reds.com.

UPDATE #2: Here’s a nice little mention about BP being tough as nails on latimes.com.
