Down on the Farm

Fifth-Third Buger

Holy Mother!

Usually, it’s the fans that take on ballpark food gluttony-based challenges, but this time Dayton Dragons catcher Mark Fleury embarks on a quest to tackle West Michigan’s latest food concoction: The $20, 4 pound, 5/3 Burger. Dragon Clubhouse Manager Corey Brinn documents the carnage. Don’t worry – Fleury had the day off that day!

More on the Fifth Third Burger:

The Nantucket Baking Company in Grand Rapids starts with one pound of dough and makes an 8-inch sesame seed bun to serve as the base for this burger. The bun is then topped with five, yes five, one-third pound hamburger patties, a cup of chili, five slices of American cheese, a mound of salsa, a few spoons full of nacho cheese and some tortilla chips. The burger is then finished off with lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. Adding your own jalapenos, ketchup or mustard is optional.

Mark Fleury vs. Fifth Third Burger

Good thing our boys up in Dayton are taking their nutrition regiment seriously! Ah, just kidding :)

Other Dragons have taken the challenge in the past and Corey was there to bring the action to us. Re-live the glory of 2009′s Fifth Third Burger Challenge.

Battin’ in the Rain

Here’s a great little video from Corey Brinn, who works for the Reds single A affiliate Dayton Dragons. Apparently, the sprinkler system went off during batting practice at one of the Reds’ minor league practice fields out in Goodyear. Great stuff.

Speaking of video – Corey has some footage of Bronson Arroyo from Thursday night’s Woodjock. Check it out.

If you’re not, make sure you follow Corey’s personal blog as well as the Dayton Dragon’s Inside the Clubhouse. They are both great looks into minor league baseball and the Dayton Dragons.

Mayor Abuse

Abused Sean Casey

Our Sean Casey bobblehead here at work has been through some battles. Poor guy. But, he’s a tough nut, so he can handle the abuse. Kinda like the Mayor abuse that happened yesterday at the Reds last game in Sarasota.

Heads up: OMGreds will be heading up to the Futures Game tomorrow in Dayton. Follow along over at the OMGreds Photo Blog for all the hot action. Do they still have the Walking Taco? We want some of that action.

Brawl-related update

Dayton Dragon Brawl
I wouldn’t normally link to a story of ours, but we’re kind of kicking the Enquirer’s butt on this one (they’re just grabbing the AP story) and nobody other than the DDN has new details.

1) Lakota West grad Matt Klinker (who I posted about earlier in the week after he won Midwest League player of the week honors) has to start tonight in the series finale. Bet that’ll be fun for him.

2) Castillo still in jail on $50,000 bond. Doesn’t have his passport with him either.

3) Rob Butcher said neither the Reds (including Jocketty, who was there) nor the Dragons will comment. Party poopers.

Dayton Dragons vs Peoria Chiefs

In a closed-caged death match! Heres what happens after 3 hit batters and a hard slide into second. Be sure to watch Peoria’s pitcher’s attempt at throwing the ball into the Dragons dugout, missing, hitting a fan and sending them to the hospital. Sorry for no sound, best video I could find.
